Rangers Advance Directly to Europa League Last 16
Rangers have secured a direct spot in the last 16 of the Europa League after defeating Union Saint-Gilloise 2-1 in their final League Phase match.
Philippe Clement’s side earned the necessary three points, and results elsewhere meant they climbed into the top eight of the league, avoiding the play-off round.
The hosts took the lead through a header from Nico Raskin after 20 minutes, and Vaclav Cerny’s neat finish following a Cyriel Dessers cutback doubled their advantage.
Union pushed to get back into the game and scored through Kevin McAllister after 83 minutes, setting up a tense finish, but Rangers held on to secure the victory.
The results elsewhere confirmed Rangers’ place in the top eight of the league table, and they will now bypass next month’s play-off round, returning to action in the last 16 in March.
