Tottenham’s Tactical Showdown: Facing City’s Might

Tottenham Hotspur Aim to Extend Winning Streak Against Vulnerable Manchester City

Tottenham Hotspur will look to extend their winning run to three games for the first time since October when they host a struggling Manchester City side at 7:30 pm on February 26 in London. Ange Postecoglou’s team have benefited from the easing of their injury crisis and recorded impressive victories over Manchester United and Ipswich Town. Here is our predicted lineup for Tottenham’s crucial midweek Premier League clash.

## Tottenham Hotspur’s Latest Lineup Developments

Guglielmo Vicario has quickly reaffirmed his importance to Spurs since returning from injury. His performance in the 1-0 win over Manchester United was brilliant, and he was solid against Ipswich despite having less to do. Antonin Kinsky will have his work cut out for him in the coming seasons as he aims to become Tottenham Hotspur’s number one goalkeeper.

Djed Spence scored his first Premier League goal in the 77th minute against Ipswich, linking up excellently with James Maddison to give the away side some breathing room. The 24-year-old’s attacking threat, coupled with his assured defensive displays, makes him one of the Premier League’s best full-backs at the moment. Archie Gray returned to the lineup alongside Kevin Danso, with Ben Davies unavailable. Destiny Udogie made his first start since December at left-back.

In midfield, Lucas Bergvall has beaten Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma to a regular starting spot alongside Rodrigo Bentancur and James Maddison. Against Ipswich, Maddison was given a rest with Dejan Kulusevski moving into the midfield. The contrast between the Swede’s performance in midfield compared to from the right against Manchester United gives Postecoglou something to ponder ahead of the Manchester City match. Kulusevski was excellent against the Tractor Boys, scoring and making three key passes.

Another player giving the Spurs manager a welcome headache is Brennan Johnson. The 23-year-old has returned from injury in devastating form, scoring two against Ipswich. It would be hard to bench the former Nottingham Forest man against Manchester City, but starting him would likely mean benching Maddison or Kulusevski. Mathys Tell was quiet against Ipswich but, with Dominic Solanke and Richarlison both injured, will likely start again in midweek.

## Recent Form and Tactics

Tottenham have had an upturn in form recently, winning two consecutive games. This was an excellent response to exiting two cup competitions in the week prior. Postecoglou’s side have had a difficult 2025 so far, but their recent form will give them the confidence that they can still salvage something from their season.

The return of key players has given Postecoglou a dilemma in the midfield. Bergvall, Sarr, Maddison, Bissouma, and Kulusevski are all competing for two spots in front of Bentancur. The latter can play on the wing, however, that would mean dropping the in-form Johnson. Manchester City are vulnerable after defeats to Real Madrid and Liverpool, and Spurs need to pick the right midfield to take advantage of this.

## Injuries and Suspensions

Timo Werner could be available this weekend after over a month out with a thigh injury. The 28-year-old has started training but will find it hard to break into an attack with more options than ever on the flanks. Ben Davies was expected to return, but a setback means he’ll miss out again against the Citizens.

Solanke (knee), Richarlison (calf), Micky van de Ven (thigh), and Cristian Romero (thigh) should be back at the start of March. Radu Dragusin (knee) will miss the rest of the season.
