Jhon Duran Set for Al Nassr Transfer Following Medical in London
Aston Villa’s rising star Jhon Duran is scheduled for a medical examination in London this Thursday, paving the way for his permanent move to Saudi Arabian powerhouse Al Nassr. The deal, valued at €77million (£64.5m) plus performance-related bonuses, has been principally agreed upon between the clubs.
Transfer Details and Contract Terms
The 21-year-old Colombian international has already agreed to personal terms with Al Nassr, committing to a five-and-a-half-year contract. This significant transfer will effectively end Al Nassr’s interest in Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface.
Villa’s Striker Situation
While Duran prepares for his departure, Villa remains firm on retaining Ollie Watkins, despite recent interest from Arsenal. The Premier League giants made an approach for the England international earlier this week, which Villa promptly dismissed, considering Watkins crucial to their strategic plans.
Duran’s Journey at Villa Park
After demonstrating impressive form early in the season, Duran secured a contract extension until 2030 last October. His tenure at Villa has been noteworthy, with 12 goals in 29 appearances this season, though only seven were starting roles. Since his £17.75m transfer from Chicago Fire in January 2023, he has accumulated 20 goals across 78 matches.
Al Nassr’s Position and Squad Strength
Under Stefano Pioli’s management, Al Nassr currently holds fourth position in the Saudi Pro League, trailing eight points behind leaders Al Hilal and Al Ittihad. The club, which finished as runners-up last season, boasts an impressive roster including football legends Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, and Aymeric Laporte.
Previous Transfer Interest
West Ham United had previously shown strong interest in Duran, making a substantial £57million bid earlier this month, which Villa rejected. This followed an unsuccessful attempt to secure his services during the summer transfer window.
