Sunderland Takes on Hull City: Predictions and Insights

Championship-action-this-weekend-with-a-clash-against-hull-city-at-the-stadium-of-light”>Championship-action-this-weekend-with-a-clash-against-hull-city-at-the-stadium-of-light”>Sunderland Back in Championship Clash Against Hull City

Sunderland suffered a 2-1 defeat away at Leeds United in their previous outing, with Wilson Isidor scoring the goal for the Black Cats at Elland Road.

Currently sitting in 4th place in the Championship table, Sunderland are eyeing promotion to the Premier League. They are in the play-off positions alongside Burnley, Blackburn Rovers, and West Brom.

Regis Le Bris was appointed as Sunderland’s manager last summer and has made a positive impression since then.

As for Hull City, they are currently positioned in 21st place in the league, just a point above the bottom three, with a game in hand on the teams below them, Derby County, Plymouth Argyle, and Luton Town.

Hull City turned to Ruben Selles as their new manager earlier this winter. Prior to his switch to the MKM Stadium, the former Southampton man had impressed at Reading in League One.

The Tigers drew 1-1 at home to Norwich City in their last outing, with Matt Crooks on the scoresheet for them against the Canaries.

Harry Mail’s Prediction

“This is a game that Sunderland need to win, and they should edge it if they show up. However, they have drawn their last two home games against Watford and Plymouth Argyle, which should give Hull City some encouragement.

The Tigers are in a relegation battle and need all the points they can get right now. They have won three out of their last four away matches at Blackburn Rovers, Millwall, and Sheffield United. Ruben Selles’ side can be leaky in defence though, and I think they may fall short at the Stadium of Light here.”

Prediction: Sunderland 2-1 Hull City

James Ray’s Prediction

“Sunderland will be eager to bounce back against Hull City on Saturday after just their first league loss of 2025 on Monday. It was a brilliant display against Leeds United until being undone late on, but I think they’ll bounce back here.

On home turf against a struggling Hull City side, SAFC are certainly going to be favourites to win this one. HCAFC have battled to some good results on the road under Selles, but I think the Black Cats will be too strong.

Counting the Tigers out would be a big risk, as they have shown fight at times and do have talented players in their ranks. However, I will be going for a Sunderland win here. Doing so in routine fashion would be the perfect response to Monday’s disappointment.”

Prediction: Sunderland 2-0 Hull City
